SCORPIO: “Can Scorpio REALLY Have a 'High Side'?”

by Victoria Schneider

I wish I had a nickel for everyone who says,  " Oh!  Scorpio!   Is that bad?" And I laugh and say, not any worse than the "down-side" of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and the other seven signs in the zodiac.

Why then, do people ask that question of Scorpio?  How did Scorpio earn such a bad rap?

Scorpio is the 8th sign of the zodiac.  Many people relegate the sign to money, sex and power.  They think that's the beginning and the end of Scorpio.  There's a huge reason why money, sex and power are thought of in a negative way....but that's for another article.  Yes, Scorpio is connected to these three terms, but why and how?

As I've mentioned countless times, each sign of the zodiac is governed by a planet.  The planet that governs Scorpio is Pluto.  In Evolutionary Astrology, Pluto represents the soul because Pluto plummets to the depths to search for that which prevents the soul from moving on, from growing and evolving.  Scorpio is like the planet which rules it.
Everyone has Scorpio somewhere in their charts?  There are two symbols that represent Scorpio - the Eagle and the Scorpion.

The Eagle, according to Myrna Lofthus, author of "A Spiritual Approach to Astrology", says "The eagle is majestic and powerful with the ability to rise above the physical world.  Scorpions are cunning and strike when least expected.”

Wherever Scorpio is in your chart, does it operate more like the Eagle or the Scorpion?

Whether Scorpio operates more like the Eagle or the Scorpion makes all the difference in the world.  Most of us have a little of both negative and positive in our lives.  The ideal is to always reach for the positive or “high side” of ANY sign. How we define and use power in our life can be an indication as to how our Scorpio is operative in our lives.  But why money, sex and power?  Why are THOSE terms connected to Scorpio?
Let’s start with power!  Most people have their individual definitions of power.  When we say, “She’s a powerful person!” or “He has more power than God!”?  What happens in your brain?  What are you now thinking?  Are you attracted to people who you deem “powerful” or are you afraid of people you THINK are “powerful”?  There are different kinds of power and different reasons for wanting and using power. Remember, it’s never “power OVER” anyone….it’s “power WITH” others.

Money is considered a “powerful force” because in most people’s eyes, money “talks”.  Please remember…money is only energy.  Money doesn’t do anything! WE decide what we DO with money.  Money doesn’t define itself, WE define money!  Did the last two sentences reduce the image of power around money for you?  Money is powerless in and of itself….it’s our ATTITUDE TOWARD money that we THINK gives it power.  Are YOU a better person within for having more money?  Are you a happier soul because you hang out with people who have money?  Are you more POWERFUL because you connect your self to money?  Only you can answer how you feel about that!

Sex is as old as old can BE!  Why is such an ancient topic a driving “power force”?  Scorpio desires to MERGE….Ah…but with WHAT and with WHOM?  Scorpio can bring out intense extremes.

A needy Scorpio wants to merge with whomever they think will bring them attention, fame, power.  We all want to evolve, but Scorpios who aren’t discerning in their relationships will merge with anything that they perceive has the ability to move them forward.  They want power and end up powerless when they merge with the wrong person, place, thing or choice.  Sex is certainly an archetype of “merging” and it’s an enticing force and energy.  Giving in to sex for the sake of feeling power is the wrong use of power.   Manipulation is a strong negative use of power with Scorpio.

A self-reliant Scorpio will want to merge with the most benevolent and highest order of the Divine will.  That’s a very powerful desire.  “Desire that is divine is at one with the will of God; it is directive in idea and creative in imaginative scope as well as in physical fact…..desire in man must become transmuted to meet the need of an age of new truth when love shall rule, an age when the immaculate conception will no longer be looked upon as a myth or a miracle, but as a calm, planned, beautiful reality, as practical as it is perfect. For the children of the New Age—individuals of far higher sensitivity and purity—will need physical bodies that will be conceived in loving harmony and truth.”

Scorpio is intense.  Scorpio is about life-death-rebirth in all its forms.  The power we seek is within ourselves.  Scorpio needs to look at ALL of these forms and live on the edge.  For if a Scorpio soul desires to live without pretense, it must, no matter what, make the unconscious conscious. It must discern amongst the worldly definitions of power and decide with whom and what it chooses to associate.   THAT is a very high calling.
