LEO! It's ALL ABOUT ME! Ah! But how do you MEAN that? Leo is all about "individuating" yourself...What does THAT mean?
Leo is all about really and honestly KNOWING "who your ARE!" WHO you came here to be...WHY you incarnated! And it's all about honoring that! Now, our small egos can get in the way - and that's where we get in trouble.
It's OK to know who you are! You're supposed to know who you are! And to a large extent, it IS "all about you!" Once you figure yourself out, then it's about sifting and discerning what about yourself do you need to keep and what about yourself to you need to change – and how best can you take that individuated YOU out into the world?
Every Leo needs a stage – not necessarily a theatrical stage, but a stage upon which the Leo can “play his part” so to speak; actually BE who he or she came into this incarnation to be; a place to CREATIVELY ACTUALIZE the self! Because the Sun is the ruler of the sign Leo, the sign of Leo needs to shine and being creative is a way to do that.
Not every Leo is an artist, or a musician. There are thousands of other ways to be creative. There are big and little ways to be creative. The creative spark is innate in a Leo. It’s looking past what our culture thinks creativity is and being in touch with the spark of initiative within and bursts forth and sends the will reeling with enthusiasm. That’s honoring one’s creative, individual spark.
Ego is a good thing. If we didn’t have an ego we couldn’t even say our names. But the most important question to ask of ourselves is, “With what do we align our ego?” That’s a telling question. If your ego is aligned with your soul, then you’re on the right track. Your soul knows what it came in to do. Your soul created your ego to express itself in the most benevolent way. If you’re not aligned with what you came in to do, if you don’t listen to that “still small voice within,” then that’s when your ego begins to distort. And all manner of behaviors from the “small self” will manifest – from self-deprecation to self- aggrandizement and in between on the spectrum. These are not joyful ways to live, however, most of us have experienced some degree of “less-than-fulfilling-not-so-much-fun” ways of being simply BECAUSE we paid more attention to our “small-ego – the “little-me” and chose not to listen the greatness that is within each of us.
The Sun is the center of our universe. We need the sun for its energy on this planet. The Sun is the ruler of the sign Leo. As important as the sun is in our universe, as powerful as it is to earth, as much as we couldn’t live here on earth without the sun, it’s still only a medium sized star. Because it’s the ruler of Leo, the energy of Leo can seem self-inflated and give itself more importance in the dance of life than perhaps other signs. There is a sense of power in the Leonine energy that can at times play “god.” Sometimes this “god” gets knocked off his throne when he finds out that he’s NOT the center of the universe. This is when Leo is misusing his creativity, has perhaps gotten up on the wrong “stage” and a negative drama plays out.
Last month we talked about the Cancer/Capricorn polarity; looking for emotional self-reliance (Cancer) in order to securely bring oneself out into the world. When this happens, then the Leo in one’s life will LOVE THE SELF in an emotionally healthy manner. (All of the signs in our chart are deeply and profoundly connected with one another – they do not function in isolation.) When we truly love ourselves, we take that secure person out into society and spread that love amongst the diversity of souls who inhabit the planet with us. This is where Leo can become a true LEADER. Leo likes to be the leader, but the question is, is he leading for the right reasons? Is he leading for the love of others or the love of knowing that SELF is a leader?
Leo is a fire sign and fire signs are full of spirit and energy. Aries and Sagittarius are the other two fire signs. Even though they possess different qualities than Leo, all the fires signs will show, within their own qualities, a strong will, a strong desire for life, a sturdy spirit. They like to be active, and they have a definite identity. They focus upon themselves, what they like and who they are. We ALL have LEO SOMEWHERE in our charts. It is influencing some area of our life. Which ever area of life is impacted by LEO in your chart, there is where all of the above will be operative. Having said that, know that ALL of the other planets in your chart are working favorably or with more duress with Leo.
Ask of yourself some of these questions:
- How do you perceive life?
- What is your personal will like?
- How do you SELF-identify?
- What is your urge to create or be creative? Where do you identify yourself as creative? (Think outside the music or art box!!)
- In what area of life do you RADIATE most?
These are a few of the Leonine traits that if used well and consciously, you’ll feel a real sense of self, a sense of empowerment, a true joy…as the French say “Joie de vivre!” JOY OF LIFE! Where Leo is in YOUR chart can show you that JOY…Now THAT’S worth exploring!
