I LOVE TAURUS! And I know just about every month I say how much I LOVE that month’s sign...but I can't help it! What's not to LOVE about EVERY sign? But Ah! TAURUS!
If you want steady, calm, persevering, resilient, honest, DOWN-TO-EARTH, not-too-chatty....THINK TAURUS! (And remember…this is ALL strictly pure, Taurean energy…not ALL Tauruses are the same! And there are many, many facets in one’s chart to alter the clarity of any sign.)
Taurus is governed by the planet, Venus which we all associate with Love. Taurus is about SELF-reliance. (Picture a 3 year old saying, "I do it my SELF!") Taureans are very placid. It's got to be a pretty big thing when they lose their temper. They can hide from their passions, so they don't talk all that much.
So since Taurus is ruled by Venus and since most folks think that Venus has to do with Love...is there more? Since Taurus is "self-reliant" what if we have a "lazy" Taurus? Since they can hide from their passions, how does LOVE come into this picture with VENUS governing Taurus? What do we DO with the flip side of the above comments?
The Evolutionary Astrology Mantra for Taurus is: “I create self-reliance with every metamorphosis.” This is telling. Because the pure Taurus energy is looking to be SELF-reliant, depend on self, learn to SURVIVE (a BIG Taurus word), each experience that forces a Taurus to do so – become self-reliant – metamorphoses (alters, transforms) the soul into just that.
A Taurus will look for that which is grounded in stability. That’s why Taurus is concerned with food, clothing and shelter – basic survival - and a way to make sure that food, clothing and shelter are available. Taurus is concerned with possessions but not only material possessions. Whatever a Taurus possesses is very important, whether it be a material possession or a concept. Ask a Taurus what it VALUES and that will be her/his desire and that which the Taurean thinks she/he needs.
SO…VALUES! Now in reference to the above questions, let’s take a very, very brief look at HOW Taurus will identify both positively and negatively with each point.
- Since Taurus is "self-reliant" what if we have a "lazy" Taurus?
- Self-reliant and lazy don’t seem to go together. But don’t forget, we live in a world of polarities therefore there is a “high and low” side to everything, however subtly we observe the differences. Let’s look at the “high” side of Taurus for a moment. SELF-RELIANCE- what IS that?
- It is the desire to depend on oneself to get the job done – whatever the “job” is.
- It is the deep desire to survive.
- It is an even deeper desire to thrive.
- Because of this, it is a desire to locate resources to make surviving possible
- Thus is it a deeper desire to “live well!” That being said, our desires differ – a tent by the side of a clear stream is living well to one Taurus, while another Taurus desires and thinks of thriving as needing a huge mansion.
- Taureans like security. The questions is from WHERE does their security come – inside themselves believing and knowing that their own energy field draws TO them what the need or OUTSIDE of themselves, depending on someone else? The latter would be the flip-side of self-reliance by depending on a person, place, thing or concept to bring them security. If we get too obsessive with outer security, that’s when Taurus is thrown back upon herself by having her “perception” of security removed so that she MUST become SELF-reliant once again.
- The bottom-line self-reliance for a Taurus is God/Goddess/All That Is which of course is within each of us. So no matter which house (area of life) Taurus falls in YOUR chart, that’s the area of life where these traits will manifest.
- Since they can hide from their passions, how does LOVE come into this picture with VENUS governing Taurus?
- Venus is thought of as that planet of love however, what KIND of Love are we talking about? Are we talking about the pure AGAPE love – or EROS love – or PHILA?
- “Eros love” is that “first blush” infatuation-like “love” which people feel in the beginning of relationships and usually that kind of “love” fades in intensity within the first year of a relationship. If something deeper doesn’t replace it, the relationship usually dwindles and fades away or simply becomes hum-drum and complacent.
- “Philia love” is a love for others, like friendships and affections for those close to us. As nice as this kind of love can be, most times it is conditional in that there is an element of “what’s-in-it-for-me?” aspect to it, meaning that perhaps a deed is done or a function carried out: a gift given, an action taken, a deed done so that a desire is satisfied for the one DOING the action as well as the one receiving the action; not a BAD thing, but there’s an ulterior motive behind the action.
- “Agape Love” is different. Agape Love lacks any kind of SELF-interest or gratification. The Love is completely given to the other…”JUST BECAUSE!” It is a very high-order of Love. It is a love that CHERISHSES the other truly. So how, then, since TAURUS is RULED or GOVERNED by the planet Venus, and since it is self-reliant, and since it doesn’t show it’s passionate side easily, HOW does Taurus deal with LOVE?
- On the “HIGH SIDE”, IF the Taurus soul learns and knows how to Love SELF, and knows that Love of SELF comes from a Love of and connection TO Divine Source, then this is the ultimate kind of love. This is the kind of love that can love others “just because they are!” This is the kind of Love that feeds a healthy self-reliance for a healthy self-reliance knows that the soul is directed by Source; there is no other dependence or merging necessary. It is not a NEEDY love or a possessive love, even though the soul is IN possession of Love of the highest order. Therefore, a Taurus who has this kind of love is someone who, BECAUSE he loves himself unconditionally, can love others in the same manner. This is a love that allows the OTHER a wide berth to grow and BE.
- If a Taurus possesses these qualities of AGAPE Love, she knows that loving herself is paramount and if she has a strong sense of self-reliance, merging with another person is not a necessity but an honorable act entered into for the sake of purely loving another. Taureans are not afraid NOT to be married or partnered. TAURUS shows us sexually, through that strong sense of self-reliance, about “self-sex”, and those Taureans who are very self-reliant and not bogged down with distorted guilt about sexual issues, who are not necessarily partnered nor want to be partnered, understand that sexuality is a good thing, a human basic desire and will not deny their own sexuality. They understand loving themselves unconditionally, purely and honestly, which is very different from “eros” kind of love.
- If a Taurus is partnered with someone, they are not typically into the “romanticized vision” of love, they will choose a partner who is grounded and loyal. And the partner, if they have the consciousness to understand, will know that their Taurus partner loves them unconditionally but will not necessarily shower them with every material object in the proverbial “this-is-what-you-buy-the-one-you-love” dating book. Taureans are very practical. However, they LOVE the “practical and sensuous” so a fabulous meal with great flavor…no matter how simple, could be a great sign of affection from and FOR a Taurus.
- On the “LOW SIDE” A Taurus who needs to LEARN self-reliance may be VERY materialistic and possessive. That would be someone who in love would be coming from the “eros” side and there would not be enough to sustain a healthy and long-lasting relationship. SELF-Reliance is what a Taurus has come in to learn. Merging with another for the sake of possessing another, or depending on another will only throw that Taurus back on himself, leaving him to OWN his choices and face the responsibility of looking within himself. Being a “less aware” Taurus initiates the distorted side of Scorpio, Taurus’s opposite sign.
Taurus has so much to offer to this beautiful planet of him or herself. Born at the time of year in the Northern Hemisphere when new life is popping up everywhere around us, we see a resiliency for survival, the strength of the desire to continue and the sensual pleasures that springtime offers to all of us. Self-reliant, grounded and loving – what FABULOUS qualities each Taurus has the offer to whatever area of life Taurus is in, in YOUR chart. If you’re blessed to BE a Taurus, discover these qualities within yourself, and if you’re blessed to know a Taurus who really lives up to the highest qualities of this sign, you have a dependable, strong, and stable friend with whom the simple things in life mean the most.
