What is your social position out in the world? What is your function or status in the community? Is there a degree of social authority or power that you hold in your community or profession? These are tenth house questions for the tenth house deals with your profession, status, reputation, your social standing in the community and workplace.
The border of the tenth house is called the "mid-heaven". It's the highest point in our chart. The time of day associated with this house is between 10:00 AM -12:00 Noon; when the Sun is at a high point in the sky.
Steven Forrest puts it succinctly in his book, "The Inner Sky," when he says, "The Mid-heaven describes how we look to people who don't know us.” That would be a tenth house statement. How is it that others see you out in the world?
For the most part we are viewed out in the world by our functions or what we do. Notice how many times, when asked the question, “Who are you?” people will reply: “I am a manager.” I am a teacher.” I am an electrician.” Those statements don’t really tell anyone who you ARE, they state what you DO! There’s a BIG difference!
Stating “what you do” for “who you are” means that you have depersonalized yourself. But the tenth house is a de-personalized house. It’s who you are out in the world. It can represent status and class if you make statements like: “She is a Democrat.” or “He is an Evangelical Christian.” These are statements that define you from someone else’s perspective. This is how someone else sees you, so there is worldly or social identity in these kinds of statements.
How many times have we heard people talk about their jobs and say that what they do for a living, for a job, is strictly to put food on the table, but it is not their life’s purpose? These are folks who don’t associate who they are with what they do. They know that they are more than their jobs. Then we have folks who love what they do for a living because what they do is a natural setting for who they are. It’s as if they have defined their destiny.
When someone comes to me for a reading and tells me that they want to change jobs, are unhappy with their job, or wonder what they should be doing for a specific line of work, I always look to the tenth house first to see what planets are active in that area of life. I’ll look at the 2nd house, (what you possess and how self-reliant are you) and the 6th house (how you work and serve; how well you discern) but my initial focus is that tenth house.
We do bring ourselves everywhere we go. At first glance, this sounds like a silly statement, but really who we are within, echoes who we are without. So even if your words and actions try to obscure how you feel within, your energies and frequencies will tell the truth and those astute enough to pick up on them will know in a heartbeat if who you are out in the world is the real you or not.
We all have a life purpose. We all have a “theme” in our astrology charts. Finding your theme is a key point. What matters most out in the world is the quality of life that you bring to it. If who you are on the job is unpleasant and always complaining, it may be time to change jobs, but it also may be time to change YOU which is ultimately much harder than changing jobs.
